DCAMM Seminar - Design, Fabrication and System Integration of the Portable Fuel Cells

A DCAMM seminar will be presented by

Professor Yean-Der Kuan
Department of Refrigeration, Air Conditioning and Energy Engineering
National Chin-Yi University of Technology
Taiwan

Abstract:

This presentation will share the research experience on the design, fabrication and system integration of the fuel cells. There will be two topics in the presentation. The first part is the direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) using printed-circuit-board (PCB) and micro  electro mechanical systems (MEMS) techniques to design and fabricate the current collectors, micro pumps and bubble removal mechanism of the DMFC system. The DMFC power generation device will also be introduced. The second part is related to the proton exchange   membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) including stack assembly, controller development, purging strategy and protection mechanism.

Furthermore, the experience of the development and test on the small self-assembled fuel cell cars is also introduced and discussed. Design of the control system through purging will also be discussed to achieve a more stable control and resulting in less hydrogen consumption and consequently increasing system efficiency. The purging period depends on the rotational speed of the cooling fan as well as the operating conditions of the PEMFC.

Danish pastry, coffee and tea will be served 15 minutes before the seminar starts.
