DESCRIPTION:<p style="text-align: left;">A DCAMM seminar&nbsp;will be presented by </p>\n<p style="text-align: center;"><strong>Professor&nbsp;Fred van Keulen<br>\nStructural Optimization and Mechanics<br>\nTU Delft<br>\nDelft, The Neterlands<br>\n</strong><strong>\n<br>\n</strong></p>\n<p style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Abstract</strong>: <br>\n<br>\n<span> </span><span>Additive Manufacturing (AM) processes, such as Selective Laser Melting (SLM), allow economic fabrication of metal components with unprecedented geometric complexity. This offers unprecedented design freedom. Topology optimization enables the automatic design of complex 3D layouts and is therefore regarded as a key design technique for advanced AM products. However, also AM processes have limitations regarding manufacturability. Moreover, in the SLM process local melting and solidification takes place, causing warping and residual stresses. These aspects are not incorporated in existing topology optimization techniques yet. Consequently, topology optimiza</span><span>tion results are not ready for AM and may require manual re-engineering. In this presentation ongoing research will be presented which </span><span>is aimed at topology optimization techniques which provide &ldquo;ready-to-print&rdquo; designs.</span></p>\n<p style="text-align: justify;"><span> Danish pastry, coffee and tea will be served 15 minutes before the seminar starts.<br>\n&nbsp;&nbsp;</span><br>\nAll interested persons are invited</p>
